About Carrabelle

The Crooked River Lighthouse
Built to replace the Dog Lighthouse in the late 1800’s that a hurricane destroyed in 1873, Crooked River Lighthouse was finally decommissioned in 1995 and is no longer active. The 4th Order Fresnel was moved out because of leaking mercury. Electricity made its way to the lighthouse in 1933 and became fully automated in 1976.
